Hi Reader Do you know what you're supposed to be doing? Of course, you have your targets and deadlines, but did you know that as you develop, and as your career develops, exactly what you should be doing (and be seen to be doing) will change over time. 1) To get ahead at work is not about being the first and last in the office every day, it’s about learning to work as effectively and efficiently as you can 2) Get into the habit of asking for feedback so that you can better understand your strengths and weaknesses. The way to win the promotion is to then use this feedback to build on your weaknesses and leverage your strengths. 3) There are certain skills that you’ll need to be able to perform well in the job that you want to be promoted to, but the skills you need further down the line are the ones that will guarantee you getting ahead. Read up on industry news and trends and exhibit the skills that will wow upper management. 4) Is there a project being offered that nobody else wants to take? Volunteer for it. Not only does this reflect positively on you to your superiors, but keeping an open mind can often lead to different and better opportunities in the foreseeable future, ones that may just lead you to get promoted.
